"How do I have to control my breath?"
"You should close your Ki with lookout of surroundings."
Generally speaking, you cannot help going in vain if you try to understand everything of Taekwondo poomsae only in words and thoughts. Instead, if you try to understand poomsae with the sweat from your endurance and self-discipline, even only this effort can lead you to the truth of TAEKWONDO. It's because concept and action are not same although they have some relations. To the contrary, experience and understanding are directly related, so the entire experience can be the very understanding by itself on condition that it belongs to a man's life with its adaptation.
When you perform a poomsae it is important to unify your spirit all the way having both power and tide in one, which is called "ruling <Ki> in whole". Ruling <Ki> in whole does not at all mean keeping power and tide same always yet having them in harmony and consistency as a whole. It is like singing a beautiful song, which is harmonious with consistency even though it includes both the quick and slow and the high- and low-pitched tones. You can obtain it ruling breath and concentrating your mind. Ruling <Ki> in whole you can unite sseuimsae and sseuimnal in a whole, and further, complete each motion of poomsae with completion of the whole process, and you can understand perfection through lookout for life.
When <Ki> is ruled in whole each motion of poomsae comes to get its proper pose and speed considering its relations to the supposed opponent, his physical condition and the efficiency of training. Just as each motion of dancing is related to another position to be complete in a flow of a rhythmical stream. Every movement even of a finger in a good dance is always performed inclusively of a flow that follows the entire current of the dance. In this way, even though it were a simple movement of dance, it has the strong power because it moves as the whole. Thus, a good dancer's dance is beyond a short reach and has enough power to hit the opponent felling him down with a use of a hand or a foot, although it looks smooth, like a rock that has rolled from far away and can destroy a building with the power of its rolling from far away. Try always to perform exact poses and to make every motion in its own distinctive speed with full meaning, like those in a good dance. Then, the training through poomsae will be as hard as any other one while it will be very easy to control over your opponent actually after all steps of the training, instead. These reasons relate perfect dance to martial arts(Mu-yae). Beautifulness and usefulness are same at the level of immersion.
And when you perform motions in poomsae you should control every movement not with your force but with your mind. Although you discern sseuimsae and sseuimnal in poomsae, if you control them with your mind, you can unify both in one with a will of suppressing the opponent down. Then, even though one of <sae> and <nal> were insufficient the other would support it, so that <sae> and <nal> will not restrict each other. No matter how flexible a body might be it cannot be more flexible than a mind and no matter how fast you might walk you cannot move faster than your mind, and although you had a hard body with abundant power they would be of no use without your mind to use them. Therefore, only when you control your mind at will you can accord smoothness, speed and power in each movement to the best of your ability. Then when you unify your mind and body you will come to make right motions naturally with no restriction on the power by your body, and this is the no-self-restriction.
The reason that Taekwondo man trains himself of poomsae is not that he pursues to gain something. There must be a complete emptiness of abandoning everything at the end of poomsae training. It is impossible not to be restricted by self without that emptiness of abandoning your self. When you've abandoned everything completely the unnecessary "You" will disappear leaving only the nature, and then you will know, to gain is not different from to abandon. Thus, in the training process to get mastery of poomsae and to make its true harmony, you should understand its formality as techniques at first and then train yourself of poomsae through thousands of repetition and the enlightenment. Then you will get the true Taekwondo.
