"I fail to use my technique often."
"Because you lack your mind in your technique."
TAEKWONDO, when it is ultimately right, does not discriminate your own motion and your opponent's. Since Samjae(three essential materials) compose change the following three kinds of ways, i.e, of Haneul, Tang, and Saram also resolve to this nondistinction. Therefore, a good Taekwondo man always move together with his opponent. The motion can be unseen. As motion and stay are same with each other in transcendental motion beyond distinction the perfect truth of Taekwondo stands beyond distinction.
In this case, Taekwondo man's mind you have when you face your opponent is the transcendentally empty one, so the mind is not filled with your conviction that you can win your opponent but rather erased by it. Perfect emptying your mind with confidence and conviction and deleting even the empty yourself is called "Erasing Yourself".
Erasing yourself you as a Taekwondo man can after all see your opponent not with your eyes but with your mind and see yourself, and then also everything else. It's possible because mind and body are not different and they fit with everything of life. Therefore, when you as a Taekwondo man see your opponent in lookout with your erased self you can see your opponent with mind in your intuition and then you come in contact with him with your whole body. In this way, as you see everything of your opponent you put him in yourself, and as he is already in yourself you can move with him.
You must always keep your sight at your opponent. When you cannot see him he moves out of reach of your offense preceding your defense from unexpected side. On the contrary, you should keep moving to where he cannot see you. When you can move where he cannot see you while you can see him, then you can grasp his <HeoSil( )>1) moving in the best position of the relation to him.
When you do right Taekwondo you can see your opponent in whatever condition because you 'are' and your opponent also 'is'. It is <Do> that penetrates every being to a harmony, so you knowing TAEKWONDO can see everything of your opponent. You can feel him as much as you can see him and if you see him through everything in the right way you can feel everything of his.
The feeling is accompanied by the proper motion that precedes thought. Just like water which fills at first yet draws back right away exactly up to your hand as soon as you put it in and which follows right away again filling gaps precisely as soon as you get your hand back out. Thus, you can feel who he is and what he thinks of and how mighty he is. This kind of knowledge of Taekwondo is nondistinctive, so, even if he can deceive your idea, he cannot deceive your motion that moves with him.
Water. The motion of Taekwondo that flows with the opponent is like this water. Water, in which whatever may be dipped, draws back to its degree, while it never draws back too much but only to the exact degree of its size and its weight. Then, once something gets out of water, the water follows it attached with no chink to it right away while it never follows too much but only to the exact degree of the empty size left.
Imitating the virtues of water the motion of Taekwondo draws back only to the exact degree that the opponent's attack cannnot reach you whatsoever it might be, and once you find out a good chance, you move in your proper tide only to its exact degree. What would be required to protect yourself controlling over your opponent in the motion harmonized with him? The ideal distance, tide and balance of Taekwondo are to be found in this adequate mingling with the opponent and each of them is nothing more than its another aspect.
What should the mind of Taekwondo man who moves together with the opponent be like? Do not hesitate at first. Empty your mind and decide definitely. And delete the decision and follow at the end. The time, during which you seek for a chance to attack in front of your opponent, stops in a moment! You should be able to throw yourself to him. If you do not throw yourself in danger you cannot be stronger, and if you are not stronger you cannot surpass him. Throwing yourself to him is equal to throwing him to you. Only then it will be possible for you to move together with your opponent.
What is the reason that you can make good decision by way of no hesitation? It is because in Taewkondo you do not think only with your ideas but with your whole to the harmony in accordance with the world. And it is also because you build right thoughts in the course of training preserving them in your instinctive motion through repetition. Thus, we can find no luck in every momentary victory or defeat.
If you don't throw yourself off you cannot rescue yourself either. When you throw yourself to your opponent in the spirit of penetrating him with all of yours you will be able to control over him at a good distance breaking the flow of his in an overwhelming tide after all. You should throw your whole to him whenever you hit him for the sake of this doing both of throwing and rescuing yourself at once.
To be able to hit your opponent you should also go into the distance where he can hit you, and in order to catch him you first go into the distance where he can also catch you. To be able to see him you cannot help going to where he can also see you. To put yourself where you can strike him while he cannot strike you under same condition, and to have him unable to see you while you can see him, these are TAEKWONDO which includes your continuous and endless motion that moves together with the opponent. It is your life itself.
